Education:
I went to Amery Hill School in Alton, Hampshire. Then Alton College after that. Next I traveled for a year to see if I still wanted to go into further education and I found that I did so I went to Manchester Metropolitan University. While in Manchester I discovered I could have a year out to work in an industry and a few of my friends and I agreed it would be good to get some perspective so I applied all over the country but was very lucky to have found the John Innes Centre!

Ok lets see where this takes us:
I live in a house in Norwich with some people I didn’t know before I moved in
I wish I had my dog with me but he’s with my parents
I like to play every sport I get a chance to, but that doesn’t make me good at any particular one!
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is my favourite book
I’ve travelled all over the world by myself but there are plenty more places to go… -

I work in a research centre in Norwich called the John Innes Centre
There is a collection of 4 (lets call them ‘schools’) that are in a park called the the NBI (Norwich Biosciences Institutes). These schools are called:
JIC [John Innes Centre],
TSL [The Sainsburys Laboratory],
Earlham Institute and
IFR [Institute of Food Research].Because of these institutes Norwich is ranked 4th in the UK for the number of “most highly cited scientists” after London, Cambridge and Oxford!
John Innes is split up into lots of buildings, in the one I am in there are all sorts of things in the labs but also whole rooms dedicated to specific equipment like mass spectroscopy rooms, microscope rooms, dark rooms, light rooms, hot rooms, cold rooms, rooms with things that shake and spin as well as normal things like kitchens, cafeterias and offices. It’s very exciting!

My Typical Day:
Wake, dress, eat, walk, work, eat, work, eat, play sport, sit, snack, sleep, dream.
-
What I'd do with the prize money:
I know a few organisations that go to schools and show them crazy projects – I’d help to make them crazier!
