      The ‘5-a-day’ is the lowest you should get, on most days you should eat more than 5 fruits or vegs (each portion with an average size of 80g for a teenager or adult, so 400g per day in total). The official campaign for the UK chose the value ‘5-a-day’ because they were worried that if they said it should be more, people would think it was so impossible that they would not even try! In other countries there are various different values, many are much higher like 600g per day, the UK version is the lowest that I know of.
